While Trump tries to distract the country with bombs and airstrikes, the Impeach Trump grassroots campaign is gaining momentum.
Local city governments are petitioning for the resignation or impeachment of President Trump, including Richmond, Virginia; Berkeley, California, and Alameda, California. Their petitions say that they do not recognize Trump as a legitimate president
Now Cambridge, Massachusetts is now joining other municipalities for an impeachment hearing. The Cambridge City Council will soon be voting on a resolution calling for the U.S. House of Representatives to start an investigation into Trump’s corruption and conflicts of interests.
Most notably, he is in violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause and the Domestic Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution, which states that he must leave behind his business connections, so as not to profit from his governmental policies. Under oath, he stated that if he was elected, he would eliminate himself from all day to day operations of his businesses, but not eliminate any “ongoing flow of emoluments from foreign governments, state governments, or the United States government.”
This is the central issue many of these municipalities are arguing, stating that Trump’s profiting off U.S. political decisions undermine the presidency and violate the public trust.
By now, many Americans know that Trump’s corruption runs deep. He has outdone Richard Nixon in terms of tax evasion and treasonous dealings, and his personal wealth building at the expense of Americans, is so shocking that many cities across America are rejecting his presidency.
His term is now barely three months old and his approval rating is already at a historical low. If these impeachment proceedings keep up, and more investigations are opened, it’s highly possible Trump will resign to save face. The longer he waits, the more likely he will be impeached.
The end of Trump is coming and we can only hope it happens before he gets us involved in another war.
