Actor and comedian Melissa McCarthy had some fun playing foot-in-his-mouth White House secretary Sean Spicer on Saturday Night Live.
The material to work with was ripe this week, since real life Sean Spicer just did something so surreal and outrageous, it entered into the zeitgeist of American culture. Spicer suggested that Hitler showed some restraint, in comparison to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, since Hitler “never used chemical weapons.”
Melissa McCarthy did a Sean Spicer imitation, while dressing in an Easter Bunny suit. Spicer himself was photographed wearing an Easter Bunny suit, which went viral quickly.
“Shut up so I can apologize!” McCarthy began, channeling Spicer, and then mock-shaming the audience for being over-critical.
“Yeah, you all finally got your wish this week, didncha? Spicer FINALLY MADE A MISTAKE!”
SNL Spicer found time to mock the president, stating that the president had “the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake America ever laid eyes on”, a jab to Trump regarding how he mentioned chocolate cake while ordering the bombing of Syria. Spicer also mispronounced the name of Assad, referring to him as “Bazooka-Felisha-Ahmad-Brishad.”
SNL Spicer took the time to explain to children what Passover was, using puppets and calling Passover the “Jewish Easter,” while also taking a crack at United Airlines and their manhandling of an overbooked passenger.
Spicer finished by taking off on an eggshell on wheels to the applause of the live audience.
As always, Saturday Night Live mocks the most influential personalities in politics with a roast – slapstick sense of humor. Trump himself has been lampooned by Alec Baldwin, while Jimmy Fallon turned up playing Jared Kushner.
But Melissa always gets the biggest laughs of the night whenever she plays the crusty Sean Spicer, always one step behind the times.
