Democrats are making waves in Illinois, defeating Republicans in municipal races, and it may foreshadow a brand new America to come in 2018 and 2020.

The Huffington Post reports that the city of Kankakee, Illinois just elected its first ever African-American Mayor, Chasity Wells-Armstrong.  West Deerfield Township has now switched to an entirely Democratic board.  Normal Township elected Democratic leaders to run the board, and that’s the first time in 100 years Democrats have come back to power.

Elsewhere, Democrat Allison Madison became the first black and female mayor to be elected in Mound City, Illinois.

Dan Kovats of the Illinois Democratic County Chairmen’s Association was optimistic about the future.  “We won in areas we normally would win, but we also won in areas Republicans never expected us to be competitive in.”

Although these are small municipal races, let’s focus on the bigger picture.  The more Republicans are unseated from power, from small races to the big leagues, the better it looks for ousting major Republicans like Trump from office on 2020 (if he even lasts that long).

This pattern also suggests more Americans are tiring of the GOP and may be ready to fill the Senate and Congress back with more Democrats who believe in progressive values and in making America Sane Again.

Similar victories have been reported in Kansas and Georgia, with younger Democrats outpacing older GOP rivals.  These are all seats formerly held by Republicans and are signifying a major change to come.

Many of these voters have been awakened by Trump’s shocking election win and are now determined to help Democrats gain back the momentum.

Republicans are getting nervous and it only hurts them more than their poster boy Trump is making them look bad.  Oh yes and we definitely noticed that the GOP tried to take away health insurance from 24 million people!

The GOP is a sinking ship with Trump leading them straight into the iceberg.

The good news is maybe we can pick up the pieces in 2018 and 2020 and keep these strings of Democratic victories going!
