Arizona Senator Jeff Blake said Former President, Barack Obama reached out to him after the shooting in Alexandria, Va.
The former President did what Trump failed to do. What happened to having presidents with hearts?
Barack Obama proved to us that one doesn’t have to be president to care. Trump clearly doesn’t understand this, and that’s why we see Obama stepping in.
Flake said Obama sent his “best wishes and prayers” for the victims, according to Politico. Flake was one of the GOP members practicing in Alexandria, Va. this morning when a gunman opened fire, injuring five including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
“He went through this a couple of times,” Flake told reporters. Obama traveled to Arizona with Flake in 2011 after the shooting that left then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords severely wounded and killed six others.
“This is particularly raw for those of us in Arizona,” Flake said, adding that Obama asked him to tell Scalise that he was thinking of the congressman.
Obama called no other lawmaker besides Flake and did so as a friend, according to a person familiar with the call. The former president and Flake did not talk about gun control or any policy issues, focusing only on the Republican senator’s condition after the shooting.
Perhaps Obama should move back into the White House and show Trump how to manage a country.
