Trump recently started a media war between himself and MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough.
President Trump’s twitter attacks aimed at Mika Brzezinski appears to have backfired as the MSNBC show’s ratings have sky-rocketed since Trump’s denunciation.
What’s particularly embarrassing to the President is the increased ratings have risen higher than Trump’s favorite news program, Fox and Friends.
MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ gained 70 percent on Friday compared to the second quarter of 2017 when 1.7 million viewers tuned into the first show after President Trump personally attacked co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on Twitter. Trump clearly brought attention to the MSNBC morning show, as it finished Friday as the No. 1 morning show in cable news in both total viewers and the key demo of adults age 25-54 with 408,000 viewers in the category.
This is not the first time Trump has attacked a media host with malicious intent. Trump most notably insulted then-Fox News reporter Megyn Kelly’s legitimacy as a journalist during a phone interview on CNN.
It’s apparent that Trump does in fact realize the public is influenced by his criticism of the media, but not in the way he thinks. Trump’s hateful, vile, and occasionally misogynistic attacks on the media and their hosts only ends up driving them more viewers.
His attack on Morning Joe clearly proves the American public will do the opposite of what Trump says. In a single tweet, the President took his favorite program, Fox and Friends, down and caused those he despises to soar in rating.
While President Trump continues his ‘fake news’ crusade against CNN, they should be thanking him for the views.
