Many people watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials, and while humor lacked this year, companies were trying to bring attention to issues our country is facing. However, one of the commercials was censored and wasn’t able to convey the message intended, although many Americans suspected where it was going.
The 84 Lumber commercial about the Mexican mother and daughter traveling by foot north to the United States portrays the hardship of Mexican peoples and those in search for opportunity. At the end of the ad, the mother and child come across Trump’s wall. Which denied any hope for the mother’s child to succeed in the land of opportunity. Thankfully, the commercial takes a more cheerful turn as the two are granted access.
You see, Trump has categorized all Mexican people into one group, including this mother and child, and labeled them horrible things like rapists, murderers, and drug dealers.
Trump’s ignorant claims couldn’t be further from the truth. Some people are just in search for the best for their children. The United States was built by people like the mother portrayed in this commercial. Well done, 84 Lumber. Shame on you, President Trump.
